For Mollie Katz, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, and strategic communications all pose the irresistible challenge of achieving a goal by fitting just the right pieces together.
In a career of more than 25 years, Mollie has been using communications to help organizations solve problems in health, health policy, science and philanthropy. At AKB her assignments have included media relations, writing, editing and project management.
A love of writing and opportunities for creativity drew Mollie to the communications field after earning a bachelor’s degree at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. She has crafted feature articles, speeches, news releases, prize-winning award applications and even a parole letter. She is also skilled in formulating messages, generating news coverage, producing special events, using opinion polling as a persuasion tool and providing training in communications skills.
Mollie’s experience in public relations firms includes stints at Ketchum, serving industry groups and major corporations; Burness, assisting grantmaking foundations; and her own consulting practice, Mollie Katz Communications, supporting nonprofits and small businesses. She’s also been on staff at nonprofits — a local social service agency, a national patient advocacy group and a national reproductive rights organization.
In her free time, Mollie can often be found in a swimming pool, an art museum or on the couch with a book.
