Growing up in a rural farming community, Ann faced little competition when she ran for delegate in Minnesota’s Township and County caucuses at age 18. Ann has built upon those early Democratic Farmer Labor progressive values during her 25 years of business. She has developed and implemented strategies for clients fighting to protect the environment, advance sustainable agriculture, promote fair trade, end human trafficking, support refugees, combat genocide, and more. And the dynamic team she’s built at AKB Strategies shares her mission of helping clients forge change for social good.
Ann’s analytical thinking and ability to deliver results have advanced the agendas of clients in non-profit organizations, trade associations and businesses. She’s advised them on raising awareness of their brands, advocating for policy change, and educating the public. Her toolbox of multi-faceted communications strategies includes grassroots campaign strategy and communications; marketing; media relations; communication audits; writing op-eds, reports, and collateral materials; and launching websites.
Before launching her business, Ann managed fundraising, public education and grassroots organizing campaigns for the environmental organizations Friends of the Earth and Clean Water Action. She holds a BA in biology from Carleton College.
